West Prairie Jr./Sr. High Spring Fine Arts Night showcased the incredible talent, creativity, and hard work of our students. The evening featured outstanding band and choir performances along with a comprehensive gallery show highlighting artwork created by our students throughout the school year.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Fentem and Ms. DeGraaf for the tremendous time, effort, and passion they invest in our students and programs. We are proud of the opportunities our students have to perform, create, and share their talents with the community. Great job to everyone involved!

Last week, students had the opportunity to visit Argyle Lake State Park for a service project through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources’ Earth Day in the Parks initiative.
Students spent the day wheelbarrowing and raking mulch throughout the Kids Discovery Play Area and the Discovery Garden near the visitor center. We are proud of the hard work, teamwork, and positive attitude our students showed while helping improve a beautiful community space for others to enjoy.
Thank you to IDNR and the staff at Argyle Lake State Park for the opportunity and partnership!

From Coach Kerns: Last night, our small but mighty girls team competed at Sectionals, and what an incredible night it was! Every athlete outperformed their seed in nearly every event, every girl achieved a PR (personal record), and every athlete scored points for our team.
Freshman Alyvia Barkley placed 7th in High Jump and the 100m, while also finishing 6th in the 400m with personal bests in both running events. Freshman Brynlee Finch earned 7th-place finishes in both Long Jump and the 100m Hurdles, setting personal bests in both events as well. Sophomore Lilly Sheffler ran a personal best in the 800m, improving her time by more than 10 seconds over the last two meets. Senior Madelynn Sullivan also achieved a personal best in the 800m and placed 8th overall.
To cap off the evening, our four girls—after already battling through multiple events—left everything they had on the track one final time in the 4x400 relay, where they earned an 8th-place finish.
West Prairie was the smallest team competing at the sectional with only four athletes, yet we still outscored five other teams at the meet. That alone speaks volumes about the heart, toughness, and determination of these girls.
This season has been incredible to watch as both our girls and boys programs continue to grow. Mr. Lommel and I are sad to see the girls' season come to an end, but we are excited about the future and believe this team will only continue to improve.
Most of all, we want to recognize our senior leader, Madelynn Sullivan. Madelynn has been the backbone of this team not only this season, but throughout the past four years. Her leadership, dedication, and work ethic have helped shape the culture of our program, and she leaves behind incredibly big shoes to fill. She will be greatly missed, and we are thankful for everything she has given to West Prairie Track and Field.

Coach Bland on the victory over QND on Wednesday: Love this team. Love my staff. HUGE WIN.
QND is a high-performing group, and our Cyclone boys showed up ready to compete. They didn’t back down, they didn’t quit, and they kept fighting all the way through.
West Prairie/Southeastern Varsity Cyclones came away with a 10–8 win over Quincy Notre Dame, powered by a huge 6th inning and steady effort from the whole lineup.
At the plate, the Cyclones put together 7 hits, 9 RBIs, and 13 walks, with big contributions throughout the order. On the mound, our pitchers battled through pressure and found a way to finish.
Wins like this don’t happen by accident. They come from preparation, toughness, belief, and a team that refuses to stop competing.
Congrats, boys! Proud to be a Cyclone.

The WP girls competed at the BPC Invite with a small but determined group of four, and made it count.
Madelynn Sullivan placed 3rd in the 800m, with Lilly Sheffler close behind in 5th. Brynlee Finch had a strong night, finishing 3rd in long jump and 4th in the 300m hurdles. Alyvia Barkley added a 4th-place finish in high jump and took 6th in the 100m with a new PR.
The Girls, tired and cold, wrapped up the meet with a great 4x400, where the girls ran a season-best time to place 4th.
Despite the coldest meet of the season, they showed up ready to turn and burn. Coach Lommel and I couldn’t be prouder of these ladies. We’d also like to shout out the boys team coming out in full force to support as well.
