The WP girls competed at the BPC Invite with a small but determined group of four, and made it count. Madelynn Sullivan placed 3rd in the 800m, with Lilly Sheffler close behind in 5th. Brynlee Finch had a strong night, finishing 3rd in long jump and 4th in the 300m hurdles. Alyvia Barkley added a 4th-place finish in high jump and took 6th in the 100m with a new PR. The Girls, tired and cold, wrapped up the meet with a great 4x400, where the girls ran a season-best time to place 4th. Despite the coldest meet of the season, they showed up ready to turn and burn. Western Illinois University stopped by West Prairie April 24th with Ray to celebrate our accepted and incoming freshmen—and what a fun visit it was!

There was a lot of excitement in the room as students were recognized for their next big step, and we couldn’t be more proud of all they’ve accomplished. Of course, Ray stole the show with plenty of energy, photos, and laughs along the way!

Mr. Lommel and I couldn’t be happier, walking away from today with a strong showcase of WP grit and determination, despite being the smallest team at the meet... and grabbing a couple of medals! Big highlights: Boys 4x1 & 4x2 took third tonight. The Mile Relay also took 3rd. Micheal Lynn also PR’d in high Jump. And Collin Cerven threw a PR in Shot Put. #CycloneNation #WestPrairiePrpud

Cyclones walk it off! On Wednesday, West Prairie/Southeastern Varsity defeated Seymour Payson 2–1 in 8 innings, capped by a game-winning RBI single from Mason Whitman. Cyclone Track was in action at South Fulton today, and it turned into one of those unforgettable meets. Gabe said it best: “This might be the best day of my life.” Coach Kerns quickly added, “I think it’s important that I note that’s after running an open 400 and the 4x400.” To wrap things up, our entire team—girls and boys—lined up and raced each other in the 4x4. Competitive, loud, and full of energy… exactly what high school athletics does best. Yes, it was a chaotic meet—but moments like this are what matter most. Coach Kerns reminds us all what’s truly important: joy, connection, effort, and creating experiences our kids will remember for a lifetime.
