Cyclone Stories | Student Voices Matter
One of the best parts of West Prairie is what happens in the ordinary moments—when a student pushes through something hard, when a teacher makes a difference, when a team comes together, or when someone quietly chooses to grow.
Recently, we asked our students to share their own Cyclone Stories—real moments that made them feel proud, supported, challenged, or simply seen. These stories help us celebrate what’s going right, and they remind us that Cyclone Nation is built on more than events and achievements…it’s built on people.
Here’s one we want to share today:
My classmates and I just did a project, and I feel really proud of it. We all did equal parts of it, and I really feel like it is very good. My classmates did their work, I did my part, and we all found a way to help and make it shine. - Jake

This was an important moment for me because after the paper was graded I got an A on it. I did it!” - Nolan

Student Spotlight: Tim’s All-State Experience
Tim recently represented our school at the Illinois All-State Honors Chorus, spending two and a half days in Peoria immersed in rehearsals, college fairs, seminars, and peer performances before taking the stage for the final concert.
Tim was selected as second-chair Bass I in District Four, earning a spot among the top singers in the state. Only the top three students in each vocal section are invited to perform in the Honors Chorus—an incredible accomplishment.
When asked what stood out most, Tim didn’t talk about scores or rankings. He talked about the people and the power of music. During their final performance, the director stopped conducting and let the choir lead one another through an emotional piece. Nearly everyone—singers included—was moved to tears.
“It was really powerful,” Tim shared. “Music is important to everybody.”
Moments like these remind us why arts education matters—not just for excellence, but for connection, expression, and shared humanity.
We’re proud of you, Tim!

This is a reminder that students are not permitted to wear hoods anywhere in the building, including hallways, classrooms, bathrooms, and the cafeteria. Wearing a hood is a dress code violation. There will be no additional reminders—violations will result in a referral.
Be a respectful Cyclone, please.
High school and junior high are different experiences. Although our school is a combined building, we strive to keep things separated when possible.
High school students should not be at junior high lockers, and junior high students should not be at high school lockers.
Thank you for keeping our hallways safe and orderly.
Students: If you need to meet with a teacher during lunch—whether for a club meeting, make-up work, or a test—you must have a pass before you come to the cafeteria.
If you arrive without a pass, you will not be permitted to leave the cafeteria.
Teachers may also email Mrs. Thompson or Mrs. Pittman a list of students who are approved to leave.
Winter Weather Reminder
As we head into winter, here’s what to expect if school is canceled:
E-Learning Days: If we know the night before or the weather is too dangerous to be outside, we’ll likely use an E-Learning Day.
E-Learning Day Schedule:
Students in grades 5–12 will follow the SIP schedule from 8:00–12:30.
Teachers will post their Google Meet link at 8:00 AM in Classroom. Teachers will take attendance for each class and students are expected to be present and engaged. E-learning days are considered to be a school day, so we don't have to make these up. As such, we will all treat these days like a regular learning opportunity, just as we would if we were in the building.
Breakfast - students are not permitted to eat breakfast in classrooms. Breakfast items must stay in the cafeteria. If a student shows up to a classroom with breakfast items, please send them back to the cafeteria.
Our school newspaper has officially gone digital. It’s now a school blog! Click this link to be taken there, and subscribe so you receive email notifications when a new post goes live! While the journalism class is leading the way, we want this to be a space for all student voices. If you have an article idea, opinion piece, or story you’d like to share, we’d love to feature it. Student guest writers are welcome to contribute to the blog. For more information or to get your writing added, email or talk with Mr. Sullivan.
Reminder - Students should keep their cell phones off and ear buds in their locker not in their pocket.

Girls Senior Night: Thursday, Feb. 12 vs. Lewistown
Come out, support our seniors, and represent your class in the stands!
E-sports today from 3:10-5 in Mr. Okoh's room
Attention all current 8th-11th graders—please check your e-mail for a survey regarding the possibility of a new course addition. Your feedback from this survey would be greatly appreciated.

Happy birthday to our Food Service, Laci Kindhart! West Prairie is so lucky to have you!
