We’re proud to share that a few of our students had the opportunity to attend the WIU School of Nursing Open House on today held in Currens Hall!

From 9 a.m. – 2 p.m., students were able to:
🩺 Tour the School of Nursing
📚 Learn about admission requirements and transfer pathways
👩‍⚕️ Meet with advisors, faculty, and the director
🔬 Rotate through nursing labs
💉 Participate in hands-on demonstrations of essential nursing skills

This was a great opportunity for our students to explore careers in healthcare and get a firsthand look at what it takes to pursue a degree in nursing. We’re excited to see them taking steps toward their future goals! 💜

Learning math by thinking, collaborating, and doing. In Mr. Rogers’ 8th grade math class, students worked together to explore how to calculate the volume of a cylinder. Rather than simply being shown a formula, students engaged in collaborative problem-solving, discussing strategies, testing ideas, and learning from one another. This approach reflects our junior high math commitment to building thinking classrooms, where students actively engage in the learning process, explain their reasoning, and deepen their understanding through meaningful collaboration. When students work together to think through complex problems, they build not only math skills—but confidence, communication, and perseverance. Great work, Cyclones! #CycloneNation #WestPrairieProud

The West Prairie Ag Department never stops finding ways to connect learning to real-world experiences. Meet Maxwell — a bottle-baby goat with a Vitamin E deficiency who is currently being nursed back to health by Mr. DeCounter. In true Cyclone fashion, Maxwell has fully embraced campus life and quickly become part of the daily rhythm of the school. From sitting in on Ag Science lessons, to helping Assistant Principal Mrs. Thompson keep the hallways moving, to “assisting” near the student printer, to getting in his daily physical therapy walks with Officer Burnham, Maxwell is everywhere — and bringing joy with him every step of the way. It’s hands-on learning, compassion in action, and a reminder that sometimes the smallest members of Cyclone Nation make the biggest impact. #CycloneNation #WestPrairieProud

Robotics Club is Up and Running at West Prairie! Our new Robotics Club is officially underway, and students are already diving into hands-on learning, problem-solving, and innovation. Students are learning how to design, build, and engineer mechanical systems while developing critical skills in teamwork, persistence, and creative thinking. From assembling structural frames to integrating gears and motion components, they are bringing engineering concepts to life right before our eyes. This kind of learning builds more than robots — it builds confidence, resilience, and real-world skills that prepare students for future careers in STEM and beyond. A huge thank you to our staff advisors, Mr. Beasley, Mr. Chatterton, and Mr. Benson, for leading and supporting our students as they explore, create, and innovate. We’re excited to see where this journey takes our Cyclones! #WestPrairieProud #CycloneNation
