At West Prairie Junior Senior High School, we unleash potential by knowing every learner, growing every learner, and launching every learner toward a purposeful future.

Welcome to West Prairie Jr./Sr. High School, home of the Cyclones! Located in Colchester, Illinois, we serve approximately 250 students in grades 7–12 from across our west central Illinois community. I'm Megan Pittman, principal, and our mission defines both our belief and our responsibility: every learner carries potential, and our job is to see it, strengthen it, and send it forward.

Know | Grow | Launch is our mission in motion — it turns what we believe into how we serve students every day. We start by knowing every learner — their strengths, needs, interests, goals, and story — because students cannot be fully challenged or supported until they are known. We grow every learner through productive challenge, high expectations, and real support — in classrooms, on teams, in activities, and throughout the community. And we launch every Cyclone toward a purposeful future with the skills and confidence to enter it. That is how potential is unleashed — not by waiting for it to appear, but by creating the conditions for it to emerge.

That daily work is guided by five core values: Purpose, Belonging, Growth, Ownership, and Contribution. Our values guide how we make decisions, build relationships, and respond to challenges. They mean we lead with clear intention, build community where every Cyclone feels seen and connected, use challenge to grow, own our outcomes, and give back to something bigger than ourselves — students and adults alike.

None of this happens without partnership between home and school, and my door is always open. We are West Prairie. We are Cyclones. And every day, our work is to Unleash Potential.
